Geitmyra
Culinary Center for Children
Our vision is to teach as many kids and youths as possible about great-tasting food that is good for them and for the environment.
Geitmyra Culinary Center for Children is a place where kids can learn about the food we eat – how to prepare it, and appreciate it. They also learn to respect nature, the farmers and fishermen that produce the food for us. They spend time gardening, harvesting vegetables, herbs and fruits, they dig in the soil and study the fascinating biological processes happening in the compost heap.
We have school classes visiting us every day of the school year. We have garden classrooms and kitchen classrooms.
We have food courses for families, for youths and for new parents wanting to learn how to make nourishing, safe and tasty food to their babies. We also have an online database of teaching resources for schools around the country wishing to implement our methods in their daily work.
Several times a year we have open food events called "Åpen Gård" (Open farm) where we invite kids and their families to smell, taste, feel, learn, experience and eat! These events are free and open to everyone.
Geitmyra Culinary Center for Children is a non-profit foundation. We are funded by grants from the Government (especially the Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Ministry of Fisheries and Coastal Affairs), and private organizations and businesses. We are located in Oslo, Kristiansand, Tønsberg and Ringsaker.
